Just a quick bus ride away from the city center, Memento Park hosts one of the most unique open-air exhibitions. After the end of the communist regime in Hungary in 1989, the political memorials of the era were gradually removed and transferred to this park. These statues were originally spread around in the city, but here you can find everyone from Lenin and Marx to ordinary freedom fighters and soldiers. The most interesting item is probably a pair of enormous boots that belonged to the Stalin statue that once stood on the square next to the Városliget (City Park). Demolished during the 1956 revolution, the original statue was 8 meters tall, so standing next to the boots may give you some sense of its size.
