Founded in the beginning of the 19th century, the Hungarian National Museum is arguably the biggest museum in the country. Offering five permanent exhibitions, everybody finds something to his taste, whether he is interested in Hungary as a Roman province or the history of pre-1920 Greater Hungary. Besides these permanent galleries, check the temporary and travelling exhibitions on the official website of the museum.

If you’re a fan of the film Evita, starring Madonna, the building might look familiar to you, as this is where Eva Perón’s funeral was shot in the film.
